Mods you hate?

Any mods you hate or at least would never do?
One that comes to mind is diamond plate floor mats. I guess if the floor was rotted out it may make sense.

haha  I thought at first glance you meant moderators ... that would definately be an awkward topic

altezza tail lights
bad/non-functional body kits
non-functional spoilers
stick on portholes
style bars
ridiculous hood ornaments (took this photo yesterday)

Me too, I thought quot;that's really brave.quot;

Chrome luggage racks
Fake wooden steering wheels
Multi spoke hubcaps (like those dayton wheels) to copy old British sports cars

Fart can exhausts. I'm all for free flowing and possibly loud exhaust systems, but the fart can style exhaust just exists to be as annoying as possible.
Thankfully the mono wiper seems to be fading in popularity. Those are fugly.

I hate it when you see chrome or polished parts in the cabin or engine bay... unless the whole cabin or engine bay matches, they look terrible. That goes for the bright red and blue silicone hoses, even unpolished welded aluminum catch cans/overflow tanks. One or two flashy parts in an engine bay full of oily dirty stock pieces just looks bad.

That is quite common on the MR2 forum

fake HID lights.

Yup, why do you think it bugs me so much?

In a similar way, I dislike mismatched interiors: tan console with black cup holder doors etc.  I also dislike clutter.  I know the ScanGuage and the GPS are cool but how many boxes do you really want to stick/glue/velcro into place?

That might be illegal.  Car manufactures were forced to take them off.

What manufacturur put a model of a nude woman on thier cars?   LOL
Seriously though, I don't think that any makes have been forced to remove hood ornaments, not stateside anyhow.

You left off chrome gas cap covers
I do think you secretly lust after those chrome luggage racks though, after all every Corvette had one in the 1970's (I kid you not).

You know what is worse than chrome gas covers? It is those fake gas door lids that are made to look like our motorcycle gas covers. Makes people who have the chrome gas covers, normal!
Yeah you caught me--deep down my fetish is a Triple White Vette, that I can drive with a full White suit on, Miami Vice style and some Louis Vutton white luggage on the back strapped to the chrome luggage rack

I'd like to see some balls to the wall national caliber CPS car with a luggage rack on it.

Those black vinyl front end bras.  My Miata had one on when I bought it - first thing I ripped off when I got home.
Why make the front end of the car look hideous all the time, so that you can protect the paint when you sell it?

I generally don't like mods that are quot;blingyquot; or quot;classyquot;. I tend to prefer mods that are either practical  or racy. If they are racy they should make sense for the car's use. No giant wings, etc, unless the car can actually use them. I do see a couple of Miatas at autocrosses that have big wings that would look silly as hell on the street, but in their case they are actually using them to go faster, so they make sense.

My car had one when I bought it. I thought it didn't look bad, but it partially covered the turn signals so I sold it for $30.

For me, it tends to be more of an issue of half-assing something versus the actual mod itself.  For example, I'm not a big fan of donks or riced cars but if they really spent the time/money doing a great job I can still respect the work enough to not hate it.  But have the same general style with lots of primer and panels hanging by wires, not so much.
In the end, I think that the only thing I really hate is the stretched tires on many euro cars.  I don't know what it is about those, but I think they are even worse than chromed spinners.  I'm guessing it's because they look half-assed as it is because it looks like the person couldn't spend the money to buy properly-sized wheels/tires.  Couple that with the fact that they often ruin otherwise nice looking cars, well...  that's why I hate them.
BB.

To be car specific I hate the chrome wings on the Ford Focus and the awful altezza tail lights on the 09'Fusion.

Ehh, I'd be surprised if there is any sort of wing that makes much difference on an auto-x course, where top speeds are generally lt;60mph, and only for a few seconds at that.  Track, sure, but auto-x?  Probably not.
Personally, I dislike nearly every cosmetic mod.  Tasteful (and tastefully-sized) wheel upgrades I can deal with, and maybe slight drops in ride height.  Almost any other cosmetic mod ends up looking worse, IMO.

Usually its just a budget method of covering up damage or a shoddy repair.
And if it isn't, often by the time the 'bra' comes off, the paint underneath is ruined by moisture and abrasion ... so the bra goes back on!
Weird fad, leftover from the 70s/80s.

Thats me 100%.  I'm not gonna knock someone for taking thier quot;stylequot; to the limit (lowriders, not my thing but when they are done right with all the paintwork and etching, wow), but if your car looks like you bought everything from pepboys and had your little brother install it, no thanks.
