Will the Solstice/Sky/Opel GT survive?

Ever since they came out I loved them, especially Saturns version. They're small enough, make enough power, and look great.
Are these cars biting the dust though? Saturn being bought out, and Pontiac ... umm I don't know, aren't they just going bye bye?

I'm pretty sure the solstice/sky is dead.

Doubtful. I was listening to a news story about this plant closing. but here is some news from GM
servlet/GatewayS...ocid=53871#sum
Pontiac is going bye-bye and these cars weren't a money maker even when they were selling. Chevy has a Camaro to sell that would have been in competition with the Solstice/Sky. I doubt Penske (who bought Saturn) would have the means to produce a low-volume non-seller like the Sky.

I think they pulled the plug on them months ago.

Gonzo...across the board.  GM's also selling off Opel.
As BMW has priced the new Z4 out of the ballpark, joining Porsche's Boxster, and this year being the end of the line for the S2000, the Miata's all alone again.

Yet another good car developed by Generic Morons and cancelled as soon as it was debugged.
Corvair
Fiero
Skystice
EV1
... ... ...
Is it a wonder that they went bankrupt?

Going, going, gone.

I just read yesterday that the Solstice Coupe IS going to be released this year! It's on the Pontiac website, and apparently 2 of my local dealers have one each. I guess they had already started production on it before Pontiac went bye-bye. AFAIK, this is quot;Officiallyquot; the quot;Lastquot; Pontiac model.

Was already released. The thousand or so already out is all there will ever be.

Ah, okay. Thanks!
Found a pic...
2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe

A shame, too... I like that coupe.

The last car to roll off the factory with a Pontiac badge will be a Vibe.

This is sad, a car they made that actually had some sporting pedigree and it's thrown out the window in two seconds ...
I love Ford but they have nothing close to this.
Maybe VW will come out with the BlueSport, because Mazda IMHO needs competition for the Miata.
When you think about it though, doesn't someone pretty much have to make some kind of competition for the Miata?

But sadly typical of them -- they've engineered very good cars, and then killed them too soon after release.

Closest would be the Mustang - that car makes me

I've also heard rumors of a future hybrid Toyota MR2.
-b.

Not unless they can fix the trunk space and wacky top.

Who said it was debugged??  They had a few things to work out for the second gen, but it never made it.  See above for 2 of them.

Good riddance.
They're both lookers, but they're both lousy cars.
Lousy powertrains, lousy engineering, lousy fit and finish, lousy ergonomics, just utterly lousy.

Me too.  It's not that often that a car makes me say quot;Wow!quot; at the first look, but the coupe was one of them.
BB.

GM is mailing out rebate offers to GM customers. And the warranty is a...government guaranteed...5-years or 100,000 miles.
The Solstice gets a $2,000 rebate...

Sorry....I disliked the Saturn, Soltice and Sky.  Though the original concept of the Saturn line attracted me, the actual car was a disappointment to me (but then, I'm not the target market more than likely).
I am, I think, the target market for Soltice/Sky and their overblown details (caricature-like) turned me off.  Too much of a quot;hey, look at me!quot; swagger in appearance.
The wheel wells in particular look down right goofy on the Soltice/Sky (looks like mini-Monster truck clearances...crude).  But everyone's taste is different so I can imagine some macho-truck-lover type folks might love the styling.  Just my opinions.

Seems like a strange attitude.  How does it hurt you if they are out of production?  Save for the limited trunk space how is the car lousy?  The top isn't as good as the NC but if you can't operate it you are either handicapped or too dumb to drive.
The powertrains aren't lousy at all.  The engineering isn't lousy, in fact it's quite impressive what they were able to come up with for so little.  The car also has some cool manufacturing technology.  The fit and finish isn't lousy.  In someways it's better than the mediocre standard set by the NC.  I found most of the ergonomics of the Kappas better than the Miata.  Primarily I was able to achieve a better seating position.  The location of the seat to wheel to pedals is the most critical part of ergonomics to me.
Even if everything you said was true, again, how does it hurt you to have them on the market?  Unless it hurts you, your attitude seems really strange.

I thought the Solstice/Sky was a flawed design and what one has come to expect of Gov't Mtrs.  However, it could have been fixed with some proper attention.  That will never be now.  Mazda needed something out there to keep it honest (sort of).  It's done its job quite well with the Miata over the years, but now it owns the modestly priced sports car business totally uncontested.  That may not be such a good thing for the consumer.  I guess we wait and see.
Bye Solstice.

Ugh, give it a rest.

But it is a questionable attitude?  I can't figure out why people cheer the downfall of others.  It seems very elementary school to me.

I'd have to agree with those that aren't exactly mourning the quot;passagequot; of the Kappa twins.  On the surface, or at a distance, the cars look terrific.  My problem began once I got closer, took a look at the design of the top, which looks like someone's erected a tent on top of a car, not to mention the fact that so many other comparable models have a top that's either powered or able to be opened or dropped from inside the car.  Then, there's the interior...which was literally the biggest turn off for me.  The Solstice dash just looks so generic in design and the design if the bucket seats was even more disappointing. There's the obvious problems regarding the top storage and lack of trunk space as well.  If you can afford to have a quot;weekendquot; car for cruising, then either one of these cars will fit the bill.  Now, if you take a weekend trip, you'll have to either take it alone, or take 2 cars because of the storage problem.  The car(s) feel like a quot;cruiserquot; due to the heavier feel and while it's a quot;comfyquot; ride, it's not one you expect from a sports car either.
Having said all that, if you can get past the looks and the design flaws/imperfections and don't mind paying a price comparable to a Miata for what feels like much less of a car, then I've no problem with someone else buying one, but not me.  I was initially tempted, but I couldn't help but compare it with what I've already got.  The car's looks are very attractive, but if you go any deeper than that, it loses me completely.
If the car was selling better and was an unqualified hit, or would at least be improved with a minimum of re-fitting/designing, I'm sure that GM would have found a way to keep the cars around.  The fact that the Pontiac brand is going away and Saturn amp; Opel are being sold off was probably the last nail in the coffin for these cars.
As for quot;cheering the downfall of othersquot;....I didn't see Jay Laz say anything of the kind.  Considering that the car(s) are already considered history, questioning someone's attitude is somewhat rather pointless.
