Ever got a weird feeling from just sitting in a car?

That's what happened to me today when I sat in a brand new Z06. I felt squashed in it... and the long hood with bulging sides and huge empty back cavity behind the seats (trunk) made me feel really weird.
Also sat in a 08 (I think) Mustang GT. That shifter reminded me of a flimsy 92' Miata slushbox (that I drove last year). Looked like it came from 20 years ago. And the huge hood scoop obscured the view a bit too much for my taste... There was something unsettling about both these things that made leave asap.

I've felt uncomfortable in a lot of modern cars I've sat in. They all have the beltline so far up, that your shoulders don't even clear the window sills. Kinda claustrophobic feeling. It may be a consequence of modern crash standards, or maybe just the current trend in styling. Either way, I wish we'd go back to bigger greenhouses, leaner bodywork.

There have been a few cars that made me uneasy.  Just about anything built by Chrysler had a strange and oddly consistent feel -- like I was sitting on it instead of in it.  My old BMW 2002 and, to a great extent, my Miata feel more like a comfortable set of clothes.  Old VW bugs feel pretty good to me for some reason.  They just make me feel happy and ready to go anywhere.  Older CJ-5 Jeeps are similar, as are '55-'57 Chevy sedans.  I've yet to meet a Corvette that I feel comfortable with, and My Dear Ex's RX-8 sorta gave me the willies.

Eh you'd get used to it.
My friend's 76 Nova is a strange experience.  The dash is so high compared to modern cars and with the bench seat you slide all around when you have to turn.

I spent several days driving my dad's new '08 Z06, as well as a regular 'Vette, and can't say it made me feel quot;weirdquot;. The first thing I noticed was that the seats were infinitely better and more supportive than the Miata seats, and the HUD was just plain cool.
It's certainly a lot bigger in every way than the Miata, but dimensions aside, it felt fine. I loved it.
I can't recall any specific car that made me feel quot;weirdquot; or uncomfortable. Some have much better seats and seating positions than others, but nothing too serious.

I have become so used to the small space in the Miata that I feel kind of lost in most other cars. Other cars give me that feeling  like I had shrunk and am now sitting in an oversized car, quite odd. This may sound like a cliche, but the only car (except for some old British roadsters) that feels like me and the car become a unit once inside is the Miata.

The 1955 GM cars had a newly designed windshield post, where the glass curved around, swept back to the side and came straight down to the door instead of at an angle like earlier cars.  It took me the longest time to get use to the post protruding toward me while sliding into the front seats. I felt like I was doing the limbo everytime I got in the car.

Ted,I understand anything from 1968 up in a Corvette causing this, but I found the 1963-67 Roadsters to be fine. The 63-67 coupe is tougher to see out the rear of though.
Weren`t those new curve glass cars around 1955 known for their knee banging while getting in?

Doesn't quot;weirdquot; simply mean quot;different than what I'm used toquot;?

Once, when I left a screwdriver on the seat by mistake. Really weird.

GM seems to think their customers all like to have their seats reclined about 45 degrees.  The old mid-90s Camaro/FireBirds, the last three generations of Corvette, and the recent GTO all have an A-pillar that's about 2 inches from your head if you try to drive with the seat upright.  I don't understand that ergonomic design, and it's a shame, because some of those cars might be interesting otherwise.

Lots of regular people like to fantasize quot;they be badquot; -LOL

I used to own a red '58 Fury that made me want to run down little old ladies and puppies...

Didn't I see you last week, working on your car at the junkyard?

I've worked on three C4 Vettes this week and sitting in them is really awkward. I've never been in one before last week. There is a strangely high sill that you really have to climb over to get in and out of the car. Also, there is almost no legroom at all, just enough space to put your feet and you can't really move them much. The trans tunnel gets in the way and you almost have to sit sideways to get your legs in. They also have the normal Corvette quot;tubquot; effect.
All in all, very uncomfortable.
