Anyone ever notice when driving the person behind you...
I've noticed this ever since i started driving and just think its kind of interesting so thought tonight (after noticing it) would post it to see if anyone else notices
(im sure alot of you do being savvy drivers)
it doesnt matter whether your in front of or behind someone
but whoever the person in front is.. say someones in front of you and they slowly begin veering off the road and outside the median, then back... 9 times outta 10 you'll do the same thing at the same spot
if you don't know what im talking about next time your on the highway and a car has been behind you for atleast 5 minutes... slowly begin to swerve to the left or right enough that its noticeable... they will follow
haha.. sorry for the ghey thread but just always noticed this
Yawns.......

thank you im not crazy after all. i notice that all the time.
Not only have I noticed this, but I tend to do the same. It annoys the crap out of me when I find myself mindlessly veering from side to side following the car in front like a dumbass.
Ya i do this a little bit every now and then.
But the morning after a blackout, i was still a lil tipsy and actually caught my self changing lanes when an SUV infront of me did.
So i guess if that situtation ever happens to me again, ill travel in the slow lane and let people pass me, that way i wont be "following" one person for too long, not that ill ever drive uti agian.
i was taught in driver training not to follow the person in front...
it's a damn good advice since a lot of californian drivers can't drive worth shiet
no i don't do that. because i'm following the road not the car in front of me.
i too follow the road.. i think its more of a sub conscious thing
also though.. there are times where it actually is the road making you swerve
Go north on the 405 and drive past bristol and such streets right near south coast plaza and i guarantee that you will do this exact thing. The road lines swerve and don't go at all with the lane marker paint and everyone ends up having to swerve back into their lane. who knows where I am talking about?

haha. so true.
well, if i ever see that, its usually because the person in front is drunk, hence the swerving. i've never 'followed' the car in front if it swerves, unless of course it swerves to avoid an accident, in which case i would follow, but thats without say.

hahahaha yea! The lines form like a sharp angle meaning if you're driving on the 405N you'll be making a pretty sharp right to stay in your lane. There have been many occurences where cars have come inches from each other because they don't notice the angle of the lane changes. It was even worse a couple of years ago in that same spot because the lines were so faded.

yanno wat i cant stand.... coming to a stop at a red light and the person behind you gets RIGHT THE **** ON MY ASS where icant even see the grill of their car in my rear view so ill inch up 6inches for comfort and they pull right up multiple times i just wanna get out and put a baseball bat to their hood
Usually they are the same people that will get 6" behind the bumper of the car turning left in front of them, and then at the very last second swerve right and pass the car on the right doing 2mph instead of just going around it when the blinker first came on.
I notice it all the time, but like a few of the others said, I follow the road - not the car in front of me.
I know what you mean, I somehow follow them.

lol i know what you mean
On the way home from work I'm gonna try and get some dude to follow me for 5-10 min... then i'm gonna drive right off the road and into lake to see if he follows.
not to sound cocky or anything, even though I notice people in front veer out of the lane a bit like that.....i don't do it.....i was noticing it yesterday too! i stay in my lane cuz i only concentrate on distance from the car ahead of me and the markers to keep me in the lane.
don't get me wrong.. i pride myself on being one of the best drivers i know.
just saying though.. sometimes its the road.. sometimes its wind.. sometimes its subconscious

that happens because you are looking at their car...and your car will follow where your eyes look. This is exactly why you shouldn't look at the car in front of you at ANY time...your eyes should always be looking PAST the cars in front of you. This is actually proper racing technique... |
