Burning oil? Alot of it.

So for a few years now I have had problems with oil miraculously disappearing from my car.  Kind of like there is an oil gremlin under the hood that sucks out my oil when I'm parked.  Within the course of 1000 miles (maybe less) I can loose up to two quarts of oil.  There are no visible leaks on the car however, and I've never left even a drip on the driveway in all these years.  I also do not see any tell tale signs of oil coming out of the exhaust.  No blue smoke, no black soot on the bumper.... Nothing.  I've just tried to ignore the problem for the last few years and topped the oil up as needed.  I do spend a lot of time at redline, during canyon runs, but mainly the car sees highway commutes.  The funny thing is that one day i can check the oil and its nearly full, and 2 days later it can be down a quart.
Where the oil is going I dont know.  This is the mystery which I have elected for you fine folks to help me solve   .  Also my cat recently failed, and I'm worried that the two problems may be related.  So, all of you Dr. Watson's out there.... where do we start?

That is very puzzling.  I'm sure you're get some good suggestions from the experts on here.  Have you let the engine run for about 10 minutes or more while it sits in the driveway?
Good luck.

Yes many times.  never a drop.  My only thought is that its coming out the tail pipe, but 2 quarts in 1000 miles id think id notice some blue smoke and soot....

Mine is the opposite--I can change the oil with the correct amount.  CHeck it a couple times the next couple days and its fine---THEN let it sit for a day or two and check it cold and it will look a quart OVER on the dipstick!!  I guess it sort of quot;siphonsquot; up the dipstick tube....?  Mine burns about a quart every 2500 miles anyways--but no real noticeable smoke--just a little oily black residue (more than normal exhaust soot) inside the tail pipe as the giveaway....D

mine seems so be doing the same thing as 56mulberry's    I can never really get a definite reading off the dipstick it changes so much...

I've got the same problem, rotormotor.
I'd love to hear some suggestions as well.

Ok this can heppen becuase of Stuck rings, warn out parts..
if it stuck rings they can be fixed.
You can Run seafom in the Oil or
use  and allot of it.
You can try doing a twisty flush.. 1 quart AFT fluid in place of oil....
THen run the car for 30 minutes and drain the oil and run a gallon of kyasee throught the oil fill and drain it.
then add in a full load of fresh cheap oil. and replace soon after.
You could also do a leak down test and Compression test.
This is a good thing to do.
if you can find a 5 gas machine, get your tail pipe checked.
See what gasses are high and low.
Inspect your Spark plugs to see how they loook.

Do a complete tear down and plasty guade all the bearing and things. see if anything is out of wack.
then rebuild the motor...
or hope for the best..

I once was losing oil because it was sucked out via the PCV valve. Cheap and easy attempt at a fix, and if you haven't changed the PCV in some time, why not?
