What,s this
I have a 1997 Base Miata with a Panasonic CD changer which I believe was added as an optional item. I was cleaning out the trunk today and removed the spare tire and found this. I am not sure what it is , whether it goes to the changer or is part of the car itself. There was a piece of foam padding covering it. I learn something new every day. Thought I would see if someone knows. THANKS.
Never seen one as original equipment.
looks like a multi CD remote unit, holds all the cd's
on the 2nd photo there apperas to be a sliding door on the front of the unit, slide it to the left to reveal where the stack of cd's goes, usually a removable cassette holding upto 10 cd's
this is how it was before ipods, and used to be considered hi tech
I think it is the cd changer.
So its part of the CD changer unit which is on the bottom of the trunk?
ok, yes,
ithought the photos were of the same thing.
second photo is the cd changer, hold the cd's
first photo, not sure , may be an interface between the head and cd changer, may be an amp, can't see
get the part number and google it, shoud tell you what the variuos bits are in the system
If you look on the back side or edge of the changer unit you will find the model number. Do a google search by mfg. and model, should be able to find the owners manual on it.
By the way could it be to power module for the ejection seat????
Yep. If you slide the door on that thing, inside there should be a cartridge that holds 6 cds. Are there any wires connected to the radio headset? If so, put some cds in and see if it works. I had a 6 cd changer in my old Jag that looked exactly the same. It was also in the trunk. (to keep thieves away)
JaguarXK120. That's what I was afraid of. If I missed a shift or something I could find myself shooting upward-FAST.
Olhippie. The Changer works great and is a 7 disc unit the real question I had was the other black boxes in the first picture. Jaguarxk120 gave me the answer, that it was the power module for the ejection seat
Is the CD Changer direct connected to the head unit? Or do you have to tune to a radio staion to hear the changer?
I think the first unit is an FBI GPS-based tracking unit. You might want to just leave that alone....j/k! It might be a power-supply for the CD-changer.
Maybe the elusive flux capacitor???
We need a consensus of opinion now, which is it, the module for the ejection seat, tracking device or flux capacitor?
deffo the flux capacitor
On the other two box's check for labels. One may be a RF unit for the changer. My Sony works that way, it's tied into the ant. cable at the radio. The other box don't know, as I said get as much info and do a search on the net. There is a lot of mfg's. info out there, just finding it is the problem.
Ejection seat is for passenger only. The flux capacitor powers up the phase shift converter to move things into a alternate reality. Good way to get rid of old burger bags/ empty cups/ect.
Well, if its the flux capacitorII then you should be able to stuff it with garbage and make it fly.....Rog
Jaguarxk120: When I told my wife the ejection seat was the passenger seat she said she can't ride with me any more. And I used a vacuum cleaner instead of that flux capacitor DUH.
Like you don't what that is. I wondered why your car set there at the house all the time. Isn't that the ankle bracelet your parole officer keeps asking about?
Chance
Look around the area for a standard wall plug, one of those box's may be a battery tender. Again look for labels they will give the most info.
That Second box is a Loc jack unit or something Like it I bet...
That was a piss poor place to put it.

It might be something weird like that. I see what looks like an RF antenna screwed into it with a piece of coax.. are there any extra antennas on top of the car? My first thought was some kind of CB radio device.
I'm having more fun with this. The PO evidently was a thingy person. When I got the Miata he had a unit installed that when the windshield wipers were turned on the lights would automatically come on ,only it didn't work. I removed it. This , I guess is the same type gadget. The one wire goes to the positive terminal of the battery then there is a ground . The only other connection is one wire going to the front . It definitely doesn't have anything to do with the CD unit. Here are some more pictures, any guesses . One unit seems to be a power supply.
Its a lo jack
did a search on FCC ID codes, the code is registered to Lo Jack
I checked the FCC ID number and it came up a Lo jack. What is that |
