Focus RS vs. Renault Mégane R26R : Stig timed (HP vs. lightweight)
Panamera vs. Royal Mail (road trip race/review)
Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car : Usain Bolt
'01 Mitsubishi Evo VII (500 hp) vs. British Royal Army : quot;British Bulldog Gamequot; over tank proving ground
Overall a very good to excellent show.
Top Gear Series 13 : Episode 4 (12 July 2009)
The varies parts (7) that make up the whole show should appear on the right side.
Another example of excellence in video production. I was blown away by the initial filming of the Focus RS. There was this one short shot where the car took off away from the camera, and it was filmed in 'warp-drive' vision. Very, very cool.
I thought the over-all show was just okay. The tank proving ground was a bit too 'set up' for my taste, but even a weak TopGear is still so much better than every other car show on television.
Once again, I downloaded it via finalgear onto a PC in the house yesterday, and use my xbox 360 to stream the video file onto my big screen tv. The wide-screen video is excellent quality, equal to that of a DVD.
I thought it was just okay.
The race with the Panamera and the letter was kind of fun, if not a bit anticlimactic.
I totally agree with zipn that the Evo vs. British Army segment was way too played out.
Focus RS. Too bad we'll never see it over here in the US.
I was surprised to see Usain Bolt as the SIARPC.
It was an OK episode. Entertaining yes, but I couldn't sit through the interview with the running man. It was just too long.
The RS segment was cool, and yes, great effects like the night into day driving shots. The Panamera segment was OK, but rather droll. Still a less than stellar Top Gear is better than most anything else!
Matt
Not one of the outstanding episodes. The army vs. Jeremy was far better with the Range Rover Sport vs. the Challenger II...but it is a very public way of destroying a drug dealer's car, so perhaps that was the message in the media.
Much of what was shown in the teaser segment during the first episode (and the two TV commercials) has yet to occur...James in Morroco with the babe, Richard with the midget in the rally, James in the ice race, so the remaining three episodes (there are only seven this time around) should be better. Plus, after all the blabing over the Internet (I can expect such spoilers on Jalopnik, but Augoblog should be flogged over their leaking of things) we know that Jay Leno's yet to appear.
What the bleep?
I live in S.E. PA and I'm only getting reruns on Comcast. This is strange.
The new episode isn't on BBC America yet. You'd have to grab it from FinalGear or someplace similar.
Thanks, I was starting to worry that there was either something amiss with my sanity or the space time continuum
I like the show, but another one for the DVR. Some of the stuff is still crap. I don't think I watch anything in real time anymore.
BBC America versions are nasty anyway - minced up and censored segments, boring stock music that wrecks the mood.
If you actually want to see Top Gear, you need to be able to receive the real broadcast or get it from Mininova/etc. (though I too often skip through SIARPC - it's usually too local).
Maybe it was too much wine during viewing but I thought this episode was very good.
The RS vs. R26R, that's drool worthy because we can't get them here and the editing was excellent. The split screen stig part was very, very nice. The production values amazing.
I agree that the Panamera was a little dull but their impressions of the car were great. Hammond didn't like it at first (not a real P-car) but he said later he liked it and would take it over a M5. Capt. Slow ended up not liking it so much. Again, production values were excellent. The aerial photography was great. It also changed my opinion of the Panamera a bit towards the positive. I appreciated the indirect, low-key, non-hype approach to reviewing the car. You could get an impression of the car. I don't like the styling but as a big booming GT car, it's hard to argue against.
The EVO tank thing was a bit overplayed but the EVO was worth watching. 500 HP on dirt. The British military stuff was good IMO, the portable bridge and specialized armored vehicles were cool.
Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car w/ Usain Bolt, it helps to be a track and field fan. But yeah, unless I know the star, I usually skip it.
God do I want that Focus!

Yeah, I don't think that segment would have been too enjoyable to produce (at least from Clarkson's perspective) had the army sawed the Evo in half with machine gun fire the first time it was in sight.

Looks like that link didn't last very long. Try this one, the full episode in one clip.

For those wanting to keep up on Top Gear in the states, I highly recommend checking out . They have all of the episodes for each season available online, in addition to Fifth Gear and other Top Gear related shows.
and thier forums. He posts there, and has shown up for some events even. That gives me a little more comfort in getting the same content from that site.... although they infact redirect you to mininova... but anyhow, finalgear has been great for years.
Matt
+1 for FinalGear.
+2 for FinalGear.
RonO
+3 for mininova, as all Final Gear does is link mininova torrents.

I noticed that as well. Season 13 is also not on iTunes yet. That is even more odd. |
