Just bought a 1991 BRG

I picked up my 1991 BRG miata this morning and I'm ready to clean it up.  The exterior... needs some TLC.  There are scratches, dents, and one spot that looks like they tried to do some dent repair and now there is a just a little bit of rust.
I need the experts to direct me on what to do to clean her up.
I'm guessing I need to clay the car, then use some scratch-x, then wax it?  For the bit with rust, should I sand/grind it out and then cover it with touch up paint?  I've never treated a car in need of this much TLC but I'd like to do my best to clean her up.
