Next gen s2000 to be accord powered front drive:(

That's right folks according to the linked article (admittedly just a rumour) but the next s2000 is going to lose it's high reving engine and is going to get an accord motor and will be.....WWD. Imagine the horror...
2009/07...placement-com/

That's not much of a quot;S2000quot; or any Honda S roadster now is it?  Honda S models are always rear drive so really they're just building a Solara competitor and Best Car decided to sensationalize it by calling it a S2000 replacement.

they should just call it a prelude.

That looks like an early Photochop of the CR-Z...  PS- Honda ... come out with an MR-2.  Thanks.

That is anything but a true S2000 .  I do not think Honda would ever blemish the good name of the S2K by coming out with a WWD drive and trying to pass it off as a successor.  People were ready to string them up for daring to contemplate a front engine/RWD replacement for the NSX.  No, let the S2K RIP.

With Honda going all FWD, will you start hating them, too?

I wouldn't buy a new one for sure.
I'd probably make exception for an early Insight or CRX -- at least those cars were WWD and *light*.   Same with a manny tranny Fit.

It'd be fine if they didn't pretend it was an S2000.  Acura's FR GT concept (AASC, I think) would be fine too if they didn't pretend it was an NSX.
Names are important.  The Pontiac GTO might've been more successful if they hadn't called it that; the G8 might've done better if they had called it Grand Prix.  The Ford Probe, for all the jokes, would've gone down in history as a terrible car if they had named it the Mustang as planned.  As the Probe, it wasn't bad.  Names set expectations.

Funny- if GM made the Corvette FWD or Ford the Mustang, you'd use it as further ammo to hate them.  But when Honda does it, you'll just avoid that car, and find some other FWD econobox that they make.  Good and consisent of you.
On the original- while the S2000 was a great car, the sad fact is that consumers don't want great cars- they want good ones that don't cost a whole bunch.  Real, raw enthusiests cars just don't make decent money for the large OEM's.

Honda has proven to be too conservative in the current economic climate to even bother contemplating a replacement roadster. They are really hunkering down and trying to be proactive in riding out the econmic downturn.
I wouldn't expect them to come out with any revolutionary sedan/coupe/anything in the near future. As for this specific piece of news; they wouldn't call it the S2000 even IF they were to make it.

much fail at honda these days........

A prelude to what?

The S2000 will become a very desirable and collectable car years down the road.

quot;Rumormill: Front-wheel drive, hybrid Honda S2000 quot;replacementquot; coming in 2012quot;
They say the world is going to end in 2012.  Maybe this is what the prophecies speak of ?

Actually
a prtetty cool looking car IMO. No S2k replacemenet, but cool none the less.

Ouch - that is a slap in the face!
Matt

rendition is an Rx8 with a Honda badge and Nissan GTR roofline. lost all credibility after i read quot;According the Best Car, the rear-wheel drive roadster's replacement will likely ditch Honda's high-revving F20Cquot;
quot;likelyquot;? this article is pointing out the obvious.
on closer inspection are you sure the article is not getting it confused with the Infiniti Essence concept?
