Wood Dash Kit Fitment Issues
sters would be welcome. At any rate... this particular kit comes with gauge trim and that's where the problem lies. One would think it to be a pretty straight forward fit-n-stick but it turns out the trim piece is the wrong size. As us NB'ers all know, the gauges are pretty close together with about 1/16quot; gap between the rings. Yet as can be seen in the attached pics, the trim is a good 1/8quot; plus to 3/16quot;. Also... the five larger holes are too small to fit around the gauge rings. The three smaller holes are about exactly the same diameter as the inside of their gauge rings while the larger tach and speedo holes are only about 1/16quot; larger in diameter than those gauge rings. The trim piece is left to float on top of the rings. Am I doing something wrong? Looking at things incorrectly? Any suggestions?
I've had this kit for over a year now, so I can't return it. In all fairness both Duetto and Superior Dash have been above board and have tried to help out, yet there is no apparent solution. They both claim the same part has been manufactured for years with no complaints or problems. Yet one can see from the pictures attached that the piece simply could not fit. What to do?
I know there are a few solutions. I could carefully sand the trim holes bigger. I could sand down the gauge rings until they are flush with the gauge face. I could leave things as they are and shim the gauge face to bring things flush with the gauge rings and thereby give the trim piece something to stick to. I have AWD trim rings to cover most any slight imperfections. Yet I find all those solutions to be a bit dodgy and more importantly, I'd like to know why the wood trim doesn't fit in the first place. I doubt the piece has been manufactured wrong... and they only make the one piece... so what gives?
Netsters... your comments please. I love to see some pics of a successful Duetto/Superior Dash installation. Many thanks. Ouch! Sorry about my rambling on.....
PS Just so you all know... in the second picture... the blotchy, cream colored stuff on the larger tach and speedo rings is simply dried glue residue left behind after I popped off the oem chrome trim rings.
Mmmm... probably too much reading to warrant a reply. My mistake.
Let me just ask this:
Does anybody have experience with and or photos of the Duetto Motors Wood Instrument Cluster Surround in their NB miata?
There ya go... short and to the point. Now if I could only get some replies.....
I have the same kit. You are correct in the ill fitting gauge surround. I used a dremel tool to cut the gauge rings flush and used the chrome trim rings to cover. It worked out very nicely, but it is permanent. |
