90 Miata thermostat question
I noticed that I had antifreeze around the thermostat housing (at the gasket to be exact) so I decided to install a new gasket and while I'm at it I'll install a new thermostat so I read up on it here and in my Haynes manual, I wanted to be sure that I didn't install it incorrectly by my recollection I could of sworn that the spring was up but the manual says that 93 and earlier the spring end down.
So is it spring up or down and if it's spring down as it says in the manual and mine was spring down shouldn't it have been getting hot?
Perhaps I'm just losing my mind.
I just popped a quick look in my service manual, and you are right, spring is down.
Look at the thermostat...some have stamped in the side..'toward rad' and an arrow.
Spring is down...I just did one yesterday...
When replacing a thermostat it.s usually best to buy new bolts as this lessens the chance of shearing one on tightening. |
