I'm writing this email for my father who has a 1990 Miata 1.6.
The symptoms are that randomly when he tries to start the car it doesn't turn over and acts like a dead battery. Then he jumps it from another car and it starts right up fine. He has a volt meter in the dash and when it doesn't want to turn over it still has plenty of volts to start. After he starts it, he can turn it right back off and can re-start it without any problems. He has replaced the battery and starter and neither of these things helped at all. He has also checked the ground strap, but doesn't know what to check next.
He hasn't found any pattern on when it decides to not start.
Any ideas on what else to check or replace?
Thanks,
Chris
It might be the ignition switch . Dirty contacts . Do a search for ignition swich cleaning...

When the engine does not turn over, do you hear the starter solenoid operate[click], this might help isolate the issue.
