'94 - 1.8 to 1.6 turbo

Yes you read that correctly. I am looking into a swap for my 1.8 to a 1.6 turbo. I have a ruined crank on my '94 and in searching for a repair/replacement I came across the 1.6 turbo which is curently in the classifieds on this site. It would be a complete swap from engine to rear-end. I do not have access to a full machine shop so the bolt-on aspect of this is a positive.
I need to determine what I would need to make this happen. I have searched FM and found that to go from 1.6 to 1.8 is minimal:
*EGR plate kit
*throttle cable bracket
*coil bracket
*motor mount brackets
*throttle body adaptor kit
Is it reasonable to assume that I would 'simply' replace those components on my '94 with OEM parts for let's say a '90-'93?
In case some of you are wondering why I just don't repair my crank...It may cost me upwards of $3500 for a shop just to pull the motor, replace the crank and check the rest of motor (might as well while it's out right?) then reinstall it. Even a used 1.8 would run me around the same expense plus who knows what condition the motor is in. And then it still only pumps out 100hp! Whereas the 1.6T (which I'm convinced is a well working/complete setup) will be around the same expense and bump my baby up to 230hp. Am I being reasonable or am I missing something?

If you are going to do the 1.8 to 1.6 change than you could do a repacement of the 1.8 (maybe out of a 99-2000) for way less than $3500 and much less work than the 1.6 swap. Also you said the 1.6 Turbo has 230 hp? sounds high to me for a 1.6 and if it did, it would need a mega squirt of some kind I would think.

Keep your diff unless the turbo car has an ugraded one.

Yeah a low mileage 1.8 would get you back on the road quick.
After that , well you could look around for a s/h turbo kit

Can you be more specific (even photos) of your crank problem? Is it the keyway beat out?
In most cases that can be fixed in car for very modest price and much less work than a motor swap.
And why in heaven's name would you even consider the trans and diff from the 1.6 car? Are they something special?
Will the car pass your state inspection with an 'older' motor? Or will they even be able to tell?
Dunno nothing about the car, but you probably will limit your resale market with a 1.6 if that matters to you.

How are you convinced that it's a quot;well-working/complete set upquot;?

I'm actually the owner of the engine in question.
It is still in the vehicle, I've daily driven it during the last two summers putting 10,000 trouble free miles on it since I've owned it, have compression tested it, and I spent a lot of time talking to the previous owner before purchasing the car (a safety belt engineer who sold the car to make room for a second cart for his son).  If he requests a third party to drive/inspect it, I'd gladly take it anywhere in the area it'd need to go.
Its a JDM 1.6 with maybe 60k on it now as the original 1990 1.6 was starting to show symptoms of the short crank syndrome.  The added power is quoted from FLyin Miata's website as it is their FMII turbo kit. It will also come with a full wiring harness and fully loaded Link ECU, giving him the option to use or sell for a MegaSquirt
The only reason I'm pulling the engine out is because I'm doing an LS1 swap.  I've battered back and fourth for the last year between leaving it in and pulling it out for the LS1, but have finally pulled the trigger. If he doesn't buy it, it will go in the corner for the Caterham project once the LS1 Miata is built.

Gotcha.  I was just worried that this was a sight-unseen thing.

If there is any chance to make a repair in place it will be done.
I just need to find a shop to get it to.

soooooooooooooooooooooooooo not worth the effort....

He's right.  I honestly don't see the point.

This is a simple: Find a $300 block, replace, enjoy

I don't think he is so much asking if its a cool swap, but if it is doable and what it would entail.
Don't kill my LS1 swap kit funds guys!  Its the only way I can reason it with my better half

LoL! no killings! I 'm going to take the car to a miata mechanic to see what repair options I have. That's just a good move ... I am not in a hurry since I have wheels. It really is a great pkg and from the info you've provided I'm sure it screams. Going to talk to a mech wednesday so keeping my fingers crosed.

ohhh i missed the you dont have a turbo now....
what sort of kit is it?  if Begi or FM...find a 1.8L motor, buy a 1.8L manifold and then swap everything in.
going to the 1.8 with all things being equal? How about with cylinder head port work?
Might be a decent upgrade once he gets bored with 14psi on the 1.6

We've seen plenty of stock 1.8L motors dish out over 270rwhp without problems.  You wont see that on a stock 1.6L block all things being equal.  Plus on a 1.8L block the turbo will spool faster and have a better overall torque curve.
Since it's a FMII kit, you should be able to get another manifold from BEGi or FM and replace it for the 1.6L.  Since the turbo remains in the exact same position relative to the body, you should be able to get away with reusing the 1.6L exhaust, the rest of IC stuff shouldn't be an issue, but may need a little tweaking, nothing much.

I made 280 on a stock 1.6.   Little bit of boost, little bit of nitrous.   I take exception to the quot;plenty of stock 1.8 gt; 270whpquot;.  What is plenty, 3?  Just bustin' ballz.

At 400+, my entire family and even friends are looking at me like I'm nuts.  They don't understand why I'm pulling the turbo engine, as its a perfect balance at the autocross.
Question one- quot;will it fitquot;
Question two- quot;How will you keep it on the road?quot;
Question three- quot;Will it go nose up?quot;
