1999 Black on Black Miata

Hello everyone and I have found a local one owner car with 14,700 miles and no options. Just a base model with poower sterring and air conditioning.
The gentleman purchased the car for his wife and they live outside the states half the year.
It has been 100 percent garage kept and there are no dings. The car looks brand new.
He is asking $8700.00. Kelly Blue Book says $7100.00 in excellent condition.
What would you think the car is worth and what should I offer?
Would you purchase a black on black Miata?
  With appreciaton and kind regards.

I think the car is worth $9K so pay the man the asking price and drive away happy.  I guess you could try $8500 but be ready for full asking price.  If you think paying more then KBB for a basicly new 10 year old car is nuts this car is not for you, you want to keep looking as cars at KBB prices do come up.  This car sounds well worth it and in new condition.

Let us know how you like it!

Well thats a pretty rare car w/no real options, but so was my no option 250hp 1965 327corvette roadster.  I just could not win the rarity=value argument with the vette experts on that car.
I am not a proponent of base miatas being desirable unless they are sport packages or R models.
The very low mileage may make this an 8K car, but one that will quickly become a 6K car w/30K more miles.

Be sure before making a final decision, to check the end-play on the crankshaft.  A 14k '99 might still be within the mileage range of possible failure.  Most of them that failed, did so before 20k.  For those who bought the car new, the engine was replaced for free under warranty, but after the warranty period ended everybody else was on their own AFAIK.

Thank you one and all for your great insights and feedback.
I will pass on this low milage example and look for a newer NB Miata with more options.
