Ticking time bomb?

So I think that I have a bearing going in the trans because i have a fast ticking noise coming from the trans area that stops when I lightly press the clutch.  I hear it could be the pilot bearing.  How big of an issue is this and what would it cost to fix?  I'm trying to sell my car and the buyer is wondering...

More than likely the throw out bearing. LOL, Think they're all a little noisy after a few years/miles.

Its a 1990 with 43k though

Probably still the throwout bearing...just dried up from time...not mileage...
The pilot bearing will squeal if it has a problem...(ask me how i know this one..)

A mechanic's stethoscope and some car jacks may locate the source of the noise. Which should help decide how expensive (or if even needed) a repair would be. Throwout bearings are cheap, accessing one isn't, if you pay someone else for the labor.
The Miata clutch area is very straight forward, any decent shade tree mechanic can do one. A good book is nice. I like two or three. More than a few Miata owners have successfully tackled clutch jobs as their first real repair.
The PPF and it's attachment bolts are different from other cars and need researching, as does re-aligning it on assembly. Most everything needed for the job is in various threads available with 'search' or in Garage.
