yeah, i am getting the GT3 seats next week, but i just want to see what the CSL seats has to offer.
bucause the CSL seats can fold up to allow easy access to the rear while the gt3 seats...i dont know but i guess i will find out next week
First of all, im not shure if the CSL seats tilt forward or not. But if they do its not the seat bending, its the mounting bracket that is allowing it to tilt forward. That would lead me to beleive you MIGHT be able to use the same mounting brackets on other seats.
Have you thought about a roll bar and harnesses? Almost everyone does not recommend installing race buckets into a car without a roll bar.
CSL are just recaro pole position shells.... you can get those from recaro and get the CSL covers.... or just have them upholstered to CSL spec.

CSL seats will tilt forward (just like the normal OEM seats)
i think the mounting gracket and the slider dose not allow the seats to tilt or fold like the OEM seats, it just allow the seats to slide
I was thinking of a more complex tilting system but I also suppose they could just slide forward. Im used to BMW making things more complicated than they should be.

Roll bar isn't neccessary but harness should be.
Couple things to note....
With GT3 seats, you aren't going to be able to get into the back unless youre pretty thin. Also, it's a safety issue, because egress is so tough, should you ever crash the car it would be damn near impossible to get out in an emergency.
Also, I don't know how you are planning on moutning the GT3 seats in your M3, but if you do not use the Porsche slider mechanism, you will have to make some cahgnes to the side mouns since the spacing between the front and rear bolts on the GT3 seats are non-standard.
As far as PPs go. Yes the CSL does use the Pole Position, albeit with a bmw specific upholstry and a slick shroud/slidign mechanism for the bottom of the seats. All of that being said, the width of the PP is very similar to that of the GT3 (Despite various claims on the internet that the GT3 seat is based on an SPG shell)
Theyre are companies that make sldiers that would allow the whole seat to tilt (this is how the OEM csl ones work) all of that being said, many peopel raise doubts as to the safety and it's for that reason I beleive that you don't seem them highly available or used in many installations.
As far as roll bar, harnesse, etc. Theres a number of opinions out there. My feeling is that you shouldnt use harnesses without a roll bar, the reason why is that in the case of roof collapse, a normal seatbelt should give you enough mobility to get out of it and get out of the car or at least crouch down enough. With a harness, this is unlikely. But to each their own. I realize that there are some arguments that coudl be made to the contrary.
All of that being said, using standard seat belts with race shells is fine based on my research. A number of European cars have that setup, race shells, std seat belts, no roll bar. CSL, Audi TT Clubsport, to name a few.
Good luck with your project,
Adam

Why? Because then if you roll over your absolutely plated in your seat=you die. With race buckets and stock 3 point you atleast have a chance to lean into the center of the car during a roll over, althought race buckets are designed to keep you in place.
Basically if you get one of the 3 following you SHOULD get all 3.

Exactly, i hope Vik didnt mean to say that LOL... You mount harness anywhere else in the car and in accident your body will twist and snap, not good..
I have the 5 point harnesses attached to my roll bar and wouldnt have it any other way. Also as mentioned before the GT3/PP seats can only slide forward and i havent heard of the tilt mechanism to make it til forward hmm but its not a good idea to carry anyone in back with gt3 or pp seats and thats if they can even get back there LOL..
ok.....hmmm......
but i fcuking hate roll cage.....
and i got a really gooooood deal on the GT3 seats.......
sh!t, i dont know |
