Blown Engine

First of all thanks for reading this and sorry if this is in the wrong place.
This forum and its community have saved me lots of times. But unfortunately today I need help once again   and I haven’t found it in previous posts.
If you don’t want to read much go to the summary (section B)
**********A***********
Last week my 99 over heated. The temp. gage never went further than the usual place.  I stopped because the engine sound got strange. Immediately the temp gage went all the way to hot and the engine was smoking. Afterwards the car didn’t turn on. I checked the car and found that the little house that goes underneath the coolant sensor broke.
I didn’t seem to have compression. I checked the plugs and they came out full of engine oil. This weekend I took out the engine head and the pistons aren’t broken. A friend told me that the head is bent.
Unfortunately I’ve been struck by this economy and right now I can’t spend much money so I need to fix my all that I can by myself. What you experts recommend me? What should I do?

Summary
Car over heated
Car won’t Start
What seemed to be very little compression
Spark plugs full of oil
Engine head out
Pistons seemed OK
Friend said Engine Head is bent and need to be cut
Need to do it myself (not the cutting but the most I can the better)
What to do?
What to change? I ordered new: engine block gasket, valve rings and cam retainers.
Suggestions!!!

I'd be reluctant to build up the engine with the parts you've ordered without first fully assessing the damage.  I assume your friend is going to deck the head (cut?).  If so, did you order a thicker gasket to compensate?  Are you sure the cylinders are not scored? If they are, you'll need to have them bored and honed and you new rings will be too small.  Also, what about the bottom end...are you sure it's still sound?

Your being in PR is the big unknown for us here in the states.
That said, I bought a '93 only to find out it had been overheated and compression was down due to head damage.  I paid to have the head removed, machined, and reinstalled.  Found out later I could have bought a replacement engine cheaper and swapped it out.  Of course the 99-00 engine was only made for two years and can be more expensive, sorry.  In your situation though, shipping from the states may be a little higher.
Are there used engines to be had in PR?
Just something to think about before you tear into yours.

Thanks FL10AE. This is what I need. My friend is a weekend mechanic and told me that I only needed to cut the head but I he didn’t said I needed a thicker gasket. Nor he checked the cylinders. He inspected the top of them but he didn’t rotate the crank to see the cylinder slave. I’ll do that. And report back. Then again lots of thanks.

It’s difficult to find NB engines here. I have found NA engines but not NBs. And I’ve always wanted to put in a 13B in it and it would be sad for me to make a swap and not make my dream swap because of this economy’s choke hold on me.

It's not a good idea to rebuild an engine without taking measurements.  But then it's not really a good idea to pull the head thinking compression is low without doing a compression test.
One time I had to measure a head surface to see if it was warped.  I had no machinests straight edge and couldn't wait.  After thinking for awhile I grabbed a 4 foot flouresent bulb.  I was shocked how straight it was.  I couldn't get a two thousandth feeler gauge in anywhere, any direction.  I'm not saying all bulbs are that straight.  That was the only one I've ever tried.
