My 06 have never false.
I'm don't know the spec of the US alarms... do they have those ultrasonic detecors in the cabin?
A friends car had this and any insects that were around (parked windows down in the garage) would set if off. He thought it was false alarms for quite awhile.
Or it's a trip to the Dealer for some warranty work.
Nope, never. In fact, i've never heard the alarm going off. I don't even know what it sounds like!
When my previous cars have done this, it was always in the door lock contol module. Could be a bad switch somewhere.

+1, I often wonder if my car has an alarm. I would like to test it and if anyone knows how to set it off without damaging the car, let me know
@werm,
When the alarm triggers is it the factory horn beeping or a siren? Did the dealer install a shock or perimeter sensor to go with your factory system? If so, it can be adjusted to be less sensitive. If it's just a defect in the factory system, use your warranty.
@bazmx5,
To test the alarm, roll your windows down, set it by locking the doors with the remote or door request button. Wait a few minutes then reach in and flick the manual door lock lever open. If you have a factory alarm the horn should start beeping.
You have a 2009 car, if your alarm is going off for no reason take it to the Dealership and have it repaired under your Warranty. Something is wrong with it.
My quot;Factory Alarmquot; has NEVER activated for no reason, it works very well.

its the factory alarm. no shock or prox sensor. didnt happen last night. does it again ill bring it in
mx5mk8: Your instructions for testing my '09 NC (horn) alarm worked perfectly. Excellent suggestion. Thank you.
The factory alarm works on two principles: vibration and doors unlocking. That's it. It sounds the horn a bit louder (I think) but more annoying than just honking the horn.
Testing the system consists of several procedures. One of them being mentioned above by setting the alarm, reaching in and either flipping the unlock latch or clicking the unlock button on the door. One of the other methods is to quot;hitquot; the windshield frame with a basketball (seriously in the instructions). I find that a good thump with the hand will do the same. Anything more or less and you need to adjust the vibration thing-a-ma-gig. It has a dial from 1-10 if I remember correctly.
I don't want to give out more information about the factory alarm as we really don't want our little cars stolen right! But it is adjustable and when triggered it will not allow the car to start no matter if you have a key or not. It will relock the car as well if that makes a difference.
To know if your alarm was triggered while away it will beep the horn for several seconds rapidly when unlocking the car.
If you have the factory alarm system then you should have the full instructions on how to adjust it and actually over-ride it in your supplemental owners manual.
Never an issue with my '06.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try it tonight!
No problems with my 08 gt with the premium pack 2. I've never heard it. *knock on wood*
Disable the alarm system, and live in peace.

Hmm....my '06 did not come with a supplemental owners manual.
Just a couple of pages in the OM regarding the Theft Deterrent System.
Does anyone know if this manual is available online? |
