Hello everyone.been lurking here for week, so thought I had better join in. I recently purchased a 1990 Miata, last week.Did sum quick research on it here and kinda like the idea of sticking a smallblock Chevy into it. I wanna go with my old 327,because its bought and paid for and makes sum sweet music. I considered the LS route, but it would take a lot more money. I noticed at least two members here have already done it,327 and 406 and I'll have a few questions along my journey. In the past, I have built a1927 Ford Roadster from scratch, (other than the fibreglass body),and the last toy was my 1972 TR6 Triumph, which got the 327 4 speed treatment . I'm really looking forward to the project and can hardly wait to get started. The end result should be well worth the time and effort. O, by the way,I reside in the great white north,eh...
. A T56 weighs quite a bit more than a T5, so this takes away from the LS block weight advantage. Besides, your big advantage is that your engine is paid for. If you are worried about the weight distrubution, just move the engine back further.
hello Silicone boy..good to hear from you.ur input is muchly appreciated. I read about ur LS swap.Pretty interesting. I know the iron block 327 will be heavier,so a pair of aluminum heads are in my plans too. I was planning on a lot of engine setback as I did in the TR6, well,as far back as possible.Off to work I go.Have a good day all.
My 327 is sporting aluminum heads. I'm running a muncie 4 speed, and I'm tipping the scales at 2500lbs.
Good luck with your build......we'll be here to help when you need it.
Congrats on taking the plunge. Just how north are you. I am in Richmond Hill just north of Toronto. How did the TR6 turn out? Have a brother in law that likes the idea of a v8 in one of those.
Good luck on the build
wow,,glad I joined this site..lotz of positivity here. Proguru;thats a nice job on urs..just wondering if itd a must to run a hood scoop with the SBC.kinda wanna keep the sleeper look.
Sulto1;thanks. I'm in London. well, the TR6 turned out real good.Ran a 5 speed the first year, then switched to a 700R4.Kinda ballistic to say the least. It stuck real good with the 4 wheel independant suspension.I think with sum sticky tires it would have pulled the front wheels off the ground.Never got to test that theory though. The third member coughed one day leaving the speed shop, driving like a little ole lady. That was in the fall,so I tore the car all apart and stuffed a blower motor (355) into it,let it sit too long and never finished it.Ended up parting it out, frame one guy bought, body another fellow.I bought a Harley and have been pretty content riding it all the time, but then got the car bug again,so, here I is. i want a dependable driver, that I can race on the weekend. I will be giving Mosport a shot when it;s complete. Don't know what class it would run in, maybe SCCA. Thats the plan for now, maybe try the 1/4 mile a few times, just to see what it's capable of.
Landon (MX5.7) has a friend that I believe was able to stuff a SBC under the hood. I recall that they spaced down the subframe, but I can't remember if they modified the oil pan.
proguru ftw!!
This man is a ton of help! Heck he even helped me with a ford build!
